Seit über einem Vierteljahrhundert ist der Schweizer Saxophonist Christoph Gallio die treibende Kraft von DAY & TAXI. Seine mit Leichtigkeit zwischen Jazz und zeitgenössischer Musik oszillierenden Kompositionen sind aphoristisch konzentriert und formal eigenständig durchgestaltet.

Unbeeindruckt von Trends wagt DAY & TAXI den Spagat zwischen Komposition und Improvisation. Stilistische Heterogenität, Poesie und auch Künstlichkeit in Form von Sentimentalitäten, Clichés oder Kitsch werden nicht vermieden. Der gelassene und sublime Umgang damit prägt den einzigartigen DAY & TAXI-Sound, der die individuellen Qualitäten der Mitspieler vereint und aufleben lässt.

DAY & TAXI – eine «Workingband» – wurde 1988 als Quartett gegründet und ein Jahr später als Trio geführt. Die aktuelle Formation arbeitet seit 2013. Die Band hat acht Tonträger veröffentlicht. DAY & TAXI tourte in Kanada, USA, Russland, Kasachstan, Japan, China und Europa.

DAY & TAXI spielte an den internationalen Jazzfestivals von Vancouver, Toronto, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Quebec City, Arkhangelsk, Moskau, New York (VISION), Pärnu, Almaty, Yokohama, Bolzano (Jazzfestival Trento), Zürich (TAKTLOS).

History

DAY & TAXI was originally formed in 1988 as a quartett with saxophonist Urs Blöchlinger (1954–1995), bassist Lindsay L. Cooper (1940–2001), drummer Dieter Ulrich and saxophonist Christoph Gallio. Concerts in Zurich (Gessneralle, Kanzlei).
Since 1989 the trio is managed by Christoph Gallio.
1991, Switzerland tour with Lindsay L. Cooper and Dieter Ulrich (St.Gallen, Sommeri, Untersiggenthal, Kunsthaus Aarau, Zürich, Basel).
1992, CD release on PERCASO: DAY & TAXI «ALL» (Cover art by Gilbert & George)
1993, Russia, Estonia and Lithuania tour (Moskow, Jazzfestival in Arkhangelsk, Novosibirsk, St. Petersburg, Pärnu, Vilnius). Sessions with Konstantin Sedovin, Vladimir Chekasin and others.
1994, Canada tour at the Jazz Festivals in Vancouver, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Quebec City and Toronto.
1997, Dominique Girod replaces Lindsay L Cooper who went back to Scottland. Concerts in Zürich (MOODS), Winterthur (Theater am Gleis), Paris (Centre Culturel Suisse), Balerna (Jazz Festival).

2001, New edition of DAY & TAXI with bassist Daniel Studer and drummer Marco Käppeli. Japan tour (Morioka, Pit Inn Tokyo, Yokohama Jazz Festival, Minakuchi, Ueno, Fukuoka, Nagoya). Sessions with Onnyk and other Japanese musicians.
